Let us take a look at how the Women and Girls at Ammanford Cricket Club are shaping up for the 2024 summer of cricket and beyond.

The past 4 years have seen rapid growth in the number of women and girls playing cricket at Ammanford Cricket Club.

The Club demonstrated its commitment to the development of the women and girls game by appointing Emma Williams to the committee in 2022 as Women and Girls Lead.

This appointment has seen the club adopt a 5-year plan, placing the expansion of the female game at the heart of the club’s cricket operations.

From a core of around 5 determined girls in 2021, the girls section now includes an Under 11 Girls Softball Team as well as an Under 13 Hardball Team.

Shari Hagget continues to fly the flag at national level having recently been selected for the Wales Under 18 Team for the 2024 season. Ellen Williams joins the Wales Under 12 squad, whilst at regional level the club boasts 2 players in the West Wales Under 13 squad and 7 in the West Wales Under 11 squad.

These teams are led by 3 female ‘ECB-qualified’ coaches, 2 of which are now also part of the regional coaching teams in West Wales.

After the successful growth of the Girl’s section, it was time for women to stand up and take guard.

In August 2023 the Club held its first taster session followed by a first friendly match. Buoyed by this initial enthusiasm, a last-minute decision was made to enter a team in the newly formed indoor league based in Pontarddulais. Led by inaugural Women’s Captain, Abby Morgan, a long winter saw 18 women make their debuts for the Club, with the squad taking the title (pictured) on a nail-biting last day of the season.

As the 2024 outdoor season starts, Ammanford Cricket Club is proud to announce that it now boasts almost 50 female playing members at the Club, with countless more women undertaking volunteering roles such as coaches, team managers, first aiders and scorers. This remarkable success could not have been achieved without the Committee’s unwavering commitment to providing opportunities for Women and Girls to play at this historic club.
